The Namibian ruling party, the South West African People's Organization underscores this sentiment, particularly in light of their empathy towards Palestine. This is a stance that has brought Germany’s historical and current international positions to the forefront. The ripple effects of Namibia’s painful history are felt far and wide, stirring conversations about justice and reparation across the globe. Namibian critics draw a parallel between their historical suffering and the present-day situation in Gaza, spotlighting the urgent need for global accountability. Yet, the Canadian government has maintained an ambiguous stance regarding South Africa’s allegations of genocide, prompting a growing demand for transparency and decisive action. Canada’s forthcoming stance—or lack thereof—on this international issue could not only shape the country’s diplomatic trajectory, but also reflect its commitment to the principles it champions on the global stage. Now is the time to act The decisions Canada makes now are crucial. Canada has a reputation for upholding human rights and justice, and it is time for that reputation to be reflected in clear actions. The calls from within Canada urging the government to support South Africa’s stance at the ICJ are growing louder. These are not just voices seeking policy changes. They represent a deeper desire for Canada to lead by example, and stand firmly for what is right on the global stage. Now is the moment for Canada to make its choice.
